President Rodrigo Duterte is not contented with the agreement between the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Kuwaiti government to uplift the ongoing total deployment ban of Filipino workers to Kuwait.
According to the President, he and DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III are already fixing the final draft that will be sent to Kuwait.
“I demanded that it will be a contract of government to government and that there will be some mandatory provisions like they should be allowed to sleep at least 7 hours a day. That they will be fed with nutritious food. We will not allow leftovers to be eaten by our countrymen. They should be allowed holidays,” says President Duterte in a Speech during the PNPA Graduation.
The deployment ban in Kuwait was lifted following the number of cases concerning the abuse and deaths of Filipinos in the country. Joana Demafelis was one of the unfortunate OFW who died in Kuwait and was abandoned inside a freezer.
The deployment ban stayed despite Kuwait’s agreement to some of Philippine’s demands like the non-confiscation of passports, permitting to use gadgets and issuance of a higher salary.
