George Raphael, an Australian citizen who has helped OFWs who were victims of abuse and maltreatment by employers in the Gulf state had recently presented a video of a domestic helper who was seeking for help. made to clean the window on the second floor of her employer’s flat.
Apparently, the helper was made to clean the window of the second floor of her employer’s house without wearing a safety gear.
In a report made by GMA 7’s “24 Oras”, the said video was given to Raphael by a Filipino worker.
Raphael claimed it wasn’t the first-time employers in Kuwait did this to their house helpers because he had been a witness to many incidents where Filipino workers had been abused during his stayin Kuwait for 6 years.
He narrated that he was able to help some of them including a Filipina who was nearly raped by four men living in her employer’s house.
Aside from those that were abused, he also helped several OFWs who were sold by their employers to other employers.
He also brought some of them to the Philippine Embassy and had hired those that are capable to work for him in his restaurant.
Meanwhile, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte still upholds his decision to totally ban the deployment of first time Filipino migrant workers to Kuwait. This decision aims to protect Filipinos from abuse and maltreatment.
The death of Joanna Demafelis found inside a freezer in an abandoned apartment in Kuwait had triggered Duterte to come up with such decision, aside from numerous abuse and maltreatment cases including mysterious deaths of Overseas Filipino Workers, more particularly the domestic helpers
