The whole nation grieves for the death of Joanna Demafelis, an OFW who was allegedly beaten to death and was kept inside a freezer by her employers in Kuwait. The Kuwaiti authorities then committed to arrest the suspects to give justice to the OFWs death.
On Sunday, the family of Joanna claimed her wake will last for 2 weeks. Interment will be on March 3 at the Sara Public Cemetery in her hometown, Iloilo City.
The body of Joanna was said to be placed inside the freezer in November 2016. However, Joanna’s family is yet to determine the actual date of her death.
The mysterious deaths and abuse of Filipino workers led to Duterte’s administrative order on total deployment ban of OFWs to Kuwait to prevent the occurrence of more violence among domestic workers with Joanna’s case which enraged the Philippine president to declare such order.
Meanwhile, representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) flew to Kuwait on Monday to get Joanna’s personal belongings.
