A Filipino couple who were staying in Hong Kong as domestic helpers are in dire need of help to repatriate the dead body of their precious child back to the Philippines. Their employer had helped them through creating a GoFundMe page with high hopes of raising the much-needed money.
In a report made by South China Morning post, a 2-year-old daughter of couple Warlito and JB Taleon died in Hong Kong due to a rare congenital condition called TORCH Syndrome. The syndrome is a group of infectious diseases that causes abnormalities in the development of vital organs, seizures and other diseases. As of their child’s case, she died due to seizures.
With the help of the couple’s employer, Harriet Sumner, they created a page as they made an appeal to the public to help them out with the money they need to coverthe expenses so they may be able to take their child’s dead body home.
“JB and Warlito are now facing the unimaginable. To assist them through this dark time we would like to offer our support by rallying together as a community and helping to raise funds which will allow them to take their precious baby home to the Philippines where she can finally rest in peace.”
“Please consider a donation to relieve the financial burden from a wonderful pair of hard working domestic helpers.”
Warlito and JB had worked with Sumner and her family as stay-in domestic helpers in Hong Kong’s Pok Fu Lam. JB had been serving the family for 7 years while Warlito was working for them for almost 4 years. When JB gave birth in 2015, they named their daughter after their employer, “Harriet”.
By the time Harriet was born at the Queen Mary Hospital in November of 2015, she had been diagnosed with having an underdeveloped brain, an impaired vision, and hearing. Since then, she had suffered from frequent seizures and had the worst one last January 21 which took her life 2 days after.
As of January 24, the couple had raised a donation amounting to $2,525. Such amount seemed small for their much-needed fund of $5,100 to repatriate Harriet’s body, excluding expenses for funeral services.
Hope this couple get the help they need for their precious child who hadalready joined her Creator.
Rest in peace, little angel Harriet.
